I've always been a fan of the 4Runner, despite the subpar gas mileage, truck-like ride, and the resale value that keeps 5+ year old ones well above the 20K mark. However, I was driving with one of these behind me today:
A 2014+ 4Runner Limited. What a bizarre looking front. All was well until they put that stupid chrome bar across the front.
I can't tell which one got worse!
Sorry for my rant!

we have a 2012 and 2013 4Runner at work and we are supposed to get another one next budget cycle (later this month). They handle our abuse well (they're patrol vehicles and both have 150k+ miles already) - better than a Grand Caravan we use for prisoner transport that is on it's 3rd engine and 2nd trans in 186k miles. These new ones are ugly though.

Wow. There are a million 4Runners around here, and I don't think I've ever seen one of those. Probably because, like me, 4Runner buyers realize that is the stupidest looking grille design on sale today. By far.

Lexus one looks much worse.

Not as bad as the Hinghlander with the taillights that stick out 6 inches.
I actually I like the front of the Highlander, but those pokey-out-y tailights drive me nuts.

I work at a Toyota dealership and I don't think I've ever seen one with a chrome front like that. Must be a regional dealer option. Ours all look like this

Just the Limited has the chrome mustache. The Trail is my favorite.

Oh GOD the Highlander, I kid you not, today I parked in front of one. It damn looked like it ws going to rape my little car.

Indeed. I don't know why Toyota believes that lights have to bulge out like tumours that infect all of their lines. Sure, it goes with the uglification campaign that they've been waging on all of their vehicles, but why? Is it supposed to be a counterpoint to Nissan trying to swoop headlights back so far that they touch the A-pillar? A voodoo curse from Honda that's actually a mystical transfer and where the mass that was removed from all the Acura beaks went? Did some poor engineer have to change out the rear lights of the last gen RAV4 so many times that he decided to single-handedly make them all easy to grab?

Umm, thats what all the new ones look like, buddy. Might want to venture out on the lot.

I think the trail version looks really cool! They need to do something about those wheels though. Toyota trucks have always been lacking in the wheel and tire department.

They figure they will be swapped out, probably. It's probably as common on 4x4 Toyota's as it is on Jeeps to swap the wheels. Mine are. It's nice to see that they are still coming with 31's from the factory.

I like the Trail as well. However, the TRD Pro looks identical to a Mitsu Outlander!

I take it the 4Runner doesn't sell as well as it used to...

The current Toyota truck lineup is hellishly ugly.

I agree the front is similar, but I would love to replace my '95 with one of them as a daily driver. Then the '95 becomes the project.

They are huge now.

It's definitely NOT all of them. The new ones have a little bit different bumper with teardrop looking fog lights, but that's about it

Yeah I meant body style wise. I think the Limited is the one with the funny looking chrome deal.
